Ben Mills is a West Yorkshire based artist making visual art and performance around the subjects of labour, class and identity. With the help of Theatre in the Mill Ben will use his experience as a professional baker and artist to lead a program of activities called “Bradford Bread" using bread, baking and related processes as a way of starting conversations and connections across the city of Bradford. This series of work’s will follow a four-part process mirroring the key stages of bread making, Mixing, Kneading, proving, and baking. Working in the community, Ben aims to uncover how the functions we perform in society can connect us and what common grounds we might share.  

This year with help from the people of Bradford Ben will present.

 

Night Shift Radio” A slow late night radio program placing you in the centre of the cities night shift work.

 

​“The Common Loaf” A live recorded month long drop in shop were people's skills can find a creative home and interlanguage chats can emerge.

 

“Makers Mark” A QR code baked on to bread from Bradford bakeries linking you to a video of the bread being made.

 

“Common Ground” A Community Wheatfield grown in 1x1 meter Plots in 100 back gardens across the city.
